We are grateful for the opportunity we had to meet Panos Kouris, the Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at Vertoro and the winner of the Marc Cornelissen Brightlands Award 2021!
A few words about Panos
Panos holds a BSc. and a MEng in Chemical Engineering from the University of Patras (Greece). In 2015, he obtained his MSc. in Chemical & Process Engineering from the Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry at Eindhoven University of Technology, where he investigated a new process for the recovery of useful components from lignocellulosic biomass waste streams. In 2018, Panos was selected as Young European Talent in the field of Science from the Netherlands. Currently, he is a PhD candidate at Eindhoven University of Technology, focusing on the development of a new generation of liquid biofuels from lignin.
What did we talk about
During this Talk, we look to gain an insight into his innovative lignin biofuel, his motivations behind why he felt so strongly to develop such a product as well as how this innovation can act as a multi-faceted answer to solving many of the problems associated with sustainability and climate change to secure the future of the planet.
Key message from our Talk with Panos
Universities and research centres need to be used to their full potentials as hubs which foster science, innovation and entrepreneurship in order to tackle the many problems around related to climate change and foster green energy transitions.
